JANUARY 2010 NEWSLETTER

Hello

Welcome to 2010!

Our office hours are back to normal (7am - 7pm weekdays, 9am - 12pm Saturday's GMT+2) and we are very excited to see what the new year holds in store for us. This is a brand new year which means its time to kick start those resolutions...

Here are a few resolutions from the Jenman Safaris staff:

- Garth Jenman (Managing director of Jenman Safaris): To get back on the road again, shed a few kgs' and run the Victoria Falls Marathon in August this year
- Katja Quasdorf (Marketing Manager): Recycling is not as big in South Africa as it is in Europe. In 2010 I finally want to introduce recycling to my own household and the complex I am living in.
- Wiebke Priilaid (Product Manager for Southern Africa): I would love to increase my fitness level and be healthier in 2010...
- Rebecca Marshall (Product Manager for East Africa & Madagascar): To get away more & explore new places in South Africa... And I've already pencilled in half my leave for the year!
- Wayne Powell (Operations Manager): I just want to better organise my life. Focus on what's important and not waste time with unnecessary things. I want to be more efficient this year!

If you have made any resolutions this year we wish you lots of luck with achieving them...

Cape Town is Africa's southern most city... the city's beauty, combined with its mild Mediterranean climate, has made it Africa's most popular tourism destination. Cape Town's biggest feature is also one of its most definitive... Table Mountain looms majestically over the city, flanked by 2 mountains - Devils Peak to the east and Lions head to the West. Nothing can compare... if you are looking for relaxed vibes, warm beaches and majestic scenery then Cape Town is just the place for you!

What to do? You can't come to Cape Town and not go up Table Mountain (don't worry if you don't want to climb up, you can take Cable car)... you can also shop up a storm at the V&A Waterfront, relax at Clifton beach, go wine tasting in Stellenbosch, explore the marine world at the Two Oceans Aquarium, unwind at the summer concerts or the winter warmer concerts at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (book at webtickets)... and so much more!

Where to eat? Cape Town is fortunate to have something for everyone! Col'Cacchio offers a great selection of pizzas and pastas around as well as great cocktails and starters. Col'Cacchio's is located in most Cape Town areas and is actually found throughout South Africa. If you are looking for delicious deserts and a wide selection of game dishes then try out "Arnolds" in Kloof Street... they have a fine wine selection and a stunning holiday vibe. For a wide selection of quality meals try Willoughbys & Co in the V&A Waterfront they boast an impressive arrangement of sushi, seafoods, meats, pastas and so much more.

Meet Laurina - get to know one of our consultants

Laurina is another one of our prized consultants... she started off with Jenman Safaris as a guide (click here to read about her guiding days) and moved onto consulting a few years later. As you can imagine she has travelled all over Africa including; South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Uganda.

"Namibia is probably on the top of my list with Uganda and Botswana following soon after. It is difficult to actually say which country I prefer as they are all unique in their own way; the people and their culture, the scenery, different landscapes and then of course the animals - it makes each country completely unique and inspiring to me..."

Laurina's latest educational was an exploratory trip, for our World in One Country Safari, which included the famous Kruger National Park as well as Swaziland and KwaZula Natal. Judging by ALL the photos, she had a fantastic time filled with lots of laughs and great weather! To find out more about this safari or the above area please click here.

We asked Laurina to let us know what her favourite restaurant in Cape Town is - for all those thinking of coming to Cape Town or for those that stay here - this is what she had to say:

Where? Pepenero Seafood and Sushi Restaurant in Mouille Point
Why? Pepenero has a diverse menu that's perfect for anyday, anytime dining... with the magnificent seaside setting and ambience it has the word "sundowner" (sunset drinks) written all over it... and with great seafood specials I can't help but not love it! Plus I love the vibe there! Tel: 021 439 9027

Sounds very yummy indeed!

Kenya - Visas - New Passport requirements

Kenya is now strictly enforcing a similar "blank pages, condition of entry" as South Africa. Anyone requiring a visa is now advised to have at least two blank pages available in their passport on arrival, failure to meet this requirement could mean that entry will be refused. If you have any visa questions or questions about Kenya (such as when to travel or what safari** takes you to the best parts of East Africa) then please email us on info@jenmansafaris.com

** Try the 'Best of Kenya and Tanzania' safari. This safari is new for 2010 and starts off in the buzzing city of Nairobi while letting you experience excellent game viewing in some of East Africa's best national parks... click here for more information

Jenman Safaris 2009 end of year party

Last year (sounds so far away!) we had our annual end of year party where we spent the day in Scarborough (past Kommetjie) playing beach games, soaking up the sun, chatting up a storm and eating until we couldn't anymore! It was a fantastic and relaxing day for everyone at Jenman Safaris... The heads of departments organised a fabulous feast for us and made sure that we would all have a great time... and what a great time we had! More images can be found on our blog...

And a big thank you to Garth Jenman and all the heads of department for a fabulous party!!!
