Happy Holidays!

Were did the year go?! We can't believe that it's December already... It's officially the time of the year when the shops get super busy, the festivities start and the end-of-year office parties are held! We, at Jenman Safaris, can't wait for our end-of-year party; we are going to a stunning beach for some games, food, relaxation and fun...

And before you all go on leave and relax too (or go to some amazing end of the year function), we would like to wish each and every one of you (our loyal newsletter readers & friends) a happy holiday! Enjoy the holiday season - be safe, relax, laugh, enjoy it and share it all on facebook.

Looking forward to an exciting 2011 with all of you all...but let's not wish the time away... just yet!

*** HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM EVERYONE AT JENMAN SAFARIS!!***

Shopping in Zimbabwe, how are the shops really?

With all the interest we receive in Zimbabwe the one strange question we get time and time again is; "Are the shops in Zimbabwe really fully stocked?"...Now, don't get us wrong - the shop situation is important to us but, when an enquiry comes in we expect questions like "What game can I see in Hwange National Park?" or "Does this tour support the Painted Dog Conservation Project?" etc... Yet, it seems that our clients are more concerned with the shop situation... maybe because stocked shelves are a true reflection of how Zimbabwe is really doing?

As a picture speaks a thousand words... We think this may help.

Travel tips!

Travelling is so exciting... but, sometimes it can become quite stressful if you realise that you have forgotten something or even worse - forgotten to book something! A friend of Garth Jenman (managing director) - David Friel - wrote some great articles that we think you might enjoy, below are some tips from him from one of his articles;

Flight tips:

  1. Be flexible with your travel dates. Leaving or returning just one day earlier or later than you'd prefer might save you 25 percent or more.
  2. If going one way, see if the round-trip fare is cheaper and choose it. Don't ask why. Nobody knows.
  3. Fly on holidays (Christmas Day, 4th of July etc.).
  4. The Wednesday night bargain window. On Wednesdays between 12:00 Midnight and 1:00 a.m., most airlines rid their computer systems of deadwood caused by people who reserved lower-cost flights but never paid. You might land a big bargain by booking in the time zone of the airline's home base during this window.
  5. Choose your seat when booking. If you wait until you get to the ticket counter and the flight is overbooked, you could be bumped to a later flight.
  6. If you call your bags "fragile" at check-in, they'll be on top of the heap and come out first at the other end.

Meet Nadia - your consultant!

Nadia has been with Jenman Safaris for just under 3 years now - making her officially part of the Jenman furniture! Nadia is one of the most patient and helpful girls you will ever meet; always happy to help and 'go the extra mile' no matter what... making her one of the favourites!

When we asked Nadia what her favourite destination was and why, she immediately said 'South Africa'!

"My belief is that South Africa is the best country and this was definitely reaffirmed after the World Cup! And Cape Town is, in my mind, the best City! Having said that I would love to travel to Tanzania and Zanzibar on a combo trip - I think those areas have a lot to offer...but, I suspect that I will STILL think that South Africa is the best!"

We thought that for our December newsletter we would feature Nadia's funniest safari memory with you, to give you a bit of a laugh in the festive season;

"When we (Katja, Laurina and I) were in Swaziland at one of the BIG game reserves on an educational we were so scared one night that I landed up sleeping on the same bed as the other 2 girls (even though we each had our own chalet with a spacious double bed!). For some unknown reason we feared that we would be 'eaten' by anything and everything that was moving in the dark outside! This, now that I think back... would never have happened! Not sure how all 3 of us fitted on the bed; I guess "where there is a will there is a way". I still giggle when I think of this...!"

This month we asked Nadia if she knew of any hidden gems (restaurants) that she thought wouldn't be too busy over the festive season in Cape Town -and this is what she had to say, "The Bo Kaap Kombuis (Cape Malay Cuisine!). It allows patrons to experience not only the delicious food but also the warm hospitality and culture of the Malay people of Cape Town...The Views from the restaurant of Table Mountain and Lion's Head are spectacular. I would definitely recommend it. It is a real gem located in an area of great history. You can check out their menu on their website: http://www.bokaapkombuis.co.za/"

Thanks Nadia, with the festive season in Cape Town always being so busy, we are definitely going to try the Bo Kaap Kombuis!
